Born in Nanyuki, Kenya, Eliud grew up in the small village of Ontulili.  As a youth, he became very interested in the wildlife and ecosystem of Africa which inspired him to attend the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) based in Naro Moru earning his wilderness certificate for high altitude guiding and first aid.

This led him on a path where he joined Mountain Rock Lodge working as an assistant guide and later being promoted to head guide leading treks on Mt. Kenya and Kilimanjaro for climbers from all over the world. After many successful treks and expeditions, he joined Kibo Slopes Safaris as the head guide for leading Mt. Kilimanjaro adventures.

His family advised him to take a course in tours and travel and they assisted him with enrollment. This course covered two years and on completion, he joined Kenya Airways in the ticketing department.

In 1996, Erastus was hired by Savuka Tours and Travel and shortly thereafter, in recognition of his hard work and determination, was promoted to head driver guide at 25 years old. He served this company for eight years. In 2005, Erastus joined StenBok Safaris and worked as a tour guide for two years before striking out on his own as a freelance driver-guide.
