A fantastic tour of Kenya’s most iconic wildlife locations combined with incredible accommodations and the convenience of flying between your destinations equals one of the most unforgettable safaris you could ever experience.  Boasting 5 star accommodations throughout, this safari prioritizes excellent game viewing and minimizing exposure to any crowds.   Meru National Park is an off the beaten path location with wonderful wildlife viewing; here you will stay at Elsa’s Kopje, the 17th ranked resort in the world.  You then fly to Loisaba Conservancy for an extremely private and beautiful setting for your activities.  Finally, you fly to the world famous Masai Mara National Reserve where you will marvel at the view of the vast plains from the top of the western wall of the Great Rift Valley.

Day One: Arrival Into Nairobi

 

Following your flight, the Odyssey Safari staff will greet you at the airport and load your bags for transport to the Hemingways Nairobi Hotel. Upon arrival there will be a short briefing at the front office about the hotel and what is included on the first night.

Your driver will mention on the timing on the morning of the second day, breakfast, checkout and what time to meet at the lobby for the tour debriefing. Some of the possible optional activities include:

Accommodation:  Hemingways Nairobi Hotel

Set between Nairobi National Park and the foot of the Ngong Hills, Hemingways Nairobi is an exclusive boutique hotel far from the bustle of central Nairobi. An all-suite property providing full butler service, gourmet restaurant, a brasserie and a bar, it is perfectly placed for trips to Nairobi National Park and the capital.

Day Two: Nairobi – Meru National Park

After breakfast, you are picked up at the hotel and transferred to Wilson airport for your 2 hour flight to Meru National Park.  Flying over the Rift Valley and then the central highlands this flight has incredible views of Mt. Kenya, Africa’s second highest mountain, and on a clear day the Indian Ocean to the east.  Once you arrive in Meru National Park you will proceed with a game-drive en-route to the lodge.

12:30pm:  Arrive at the lodge, check-in and lunch is served at the dining room.

3:30pm: Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are served in the lounge before the afternoon game drive.

4:00pm:  Depart for your afternoon game drive.  Meru National Park is noted for its fauna, natural beauty and is home to a large pride of lions, herds of buffalo, giraffe, Zebra along with hippos and crocodiles that live in the rivers of this park.  Meru has many swamps and rivers lined with palms, game viewing in mountain and woodland settings and is the setting for Joy Adamson’s book “Born Free”, which was later made into a successful film.

6:30pm:  Return to the lodge for dinner, stargazing and overnight.

Accommodation:  Elsa’s Kopje

Recently ranked the #17 resort in the world, Elsa’s Kopje blends African elegance and romance in the wild setting of Meru National Park. Named after Elsa the lioness made famous by Born Free, the autobiographical story and movie of George and Joy Adamson, the lodge is nestled into a rocky kopje. A refuge of luxury in a rugged environment, the charming cottage suites are built around the natural features of the kopje, each enjoying unique breath-taking views over the sweeping Meru plains. An elegant bar and dining area and inviting infinity pool complete the Elsa’s experience.

Day Three: Explore Meru National Park

8:00 am:  After a hearty breakfast, explore Meru National Park which is host to an extraordinary array of wildlife.  You depart the camp in four-wheel drive vehicles together with professional safari guides to explore the bush at your pace to enjoy a vivid, personal connection with some of the magnificent creatures that call this area home.  Meru National Park is also home to the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, and Oryx which are not found in many of the other National Parks in Kenya.

In addtion the regular morning and afternoon game drives, there are a variety of other activities available on and off camp, including bird watching, bush walks, mountain biking and visiting the villages of the peaceful and friendly Meru People.  Every activity is an opportunity to enjoy the stunning scenery and rhythms of life that are classically African.

Day Four:  Meru National Park – Loisaba Conservancy

6:30 am: Enjoy an early morning game drive looking for any of the many species in that park that you may have missed to this point including elephants, hippos, lions, leopards, cheetahs or the rare antelopes Lesser Kudu and duiker.  The dik-dik, a tiny African antelope that stands just 12 inches high and is notoriously shy will amuse you.  Meru National Park also has some of Kenya’s largest herds of buffalo, along with hartebeests, waterbuck, giraffes and gazelles.

9:00 am: Return to the resort for breakfast,  check-out and transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to the Loisaba Conservancy.  On this flight the views of Mt Kenya and its 17,000 ft peak, mile deep gorges valley and the many rivers and lakes are spectacular.  You will see large wheat and French bean plantations north of the mountain, region important to Kenya’s food production.  On arrival at Loisaba, you will be picked up with a game drive en route to the lodge for lunch and check-in at around noon.

3:00 pm:  Tea, coffee and light snacks precede the evening game drive in the Conservancy.   Not only will you marvel at the elephants as they traverse millenniums old migration routes, but you will learn about the cutting edge techniques the conservancy employs to keep the animals here safe from poaching.

Perched on the edge of an escarpment, Loisaba Tented Camp is designed to capitalize on unhindered views across Laikipia’s mottled landscape all the way to Mt Kenya. All accommodations and main areas enjoy a breathtaking vantage point over an expansive panorama.

African-themed sophistication and style is the flavour of Loisaba Tented Camp. Spacious and airy tents are custom-built with large floor-to-ceiling doors and windows, high ceilings and polished wood floors. The tent suites are adorned in chic Africana furniture with a modern European twist.  

The inviting main areas of Loisaba Tented Camp include a large open dining area, separate open lounge and bar, a large wooden decking area for outside dining, relaxing and enjoying the view, and one of Africa’s most picturesque infinity pools.

Day Five: Exploring Loisaba Conservancy

Loisaba Conservancy is outstandingly beautiful, its abundant wildlife is truly wild and its accommodation is comfortable beyond measure.

Loisaba is made for adventure: guests enjoy complete freedom to choose how they spend their time so the only barrier is your own imagination. Trek through the bush with camels, mountain bike down the escarpment, raft, horseback-ride or drive through the wild canyons of the two great rivers that span the vast property.

Day Six:  Loisaba Conservancy to Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for the flight to the Masai Mara and on arrival you will be met by a representative from Angama Camp who will transfer you to the camp with game viewing en-route.  Check in and enjoy lunch at the camp before departing on a game drive in the word famous Masai Mara National Reserve.

The name Angama is inspired by the Swahili word for ‘suspended in mid-air’. Located high above the floor of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, Angama Mara is a remarkable owner-run safari lodge overlooking Kenya’s Maasai Mara, considered by many as the loveliest game reserve on the continent.

Day Seven: Exploring The Masai Mara National Reserve

Our adventure into the Masai Mara continues today during extensive game runs. On the plains are enormous herds of grazing animals plus the elusive cheetah and leopard hiding amidst acacia boughs.

Wake up to the sights and sounds of one of the world’s premier wildlife destinations. In the Masai Mara Reserve lives 95 species of mammals and 570 species of birds, an impressive number, making this area an unique destination for game safaris, one of the best places in all of Africa.

Day Eight: Masai Mara – Nairobi – Depart

Today after breakfast you will check out of the lodge and transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi.  On arrival, you are transferred to your hotel and day room where you can relax and prepare for your international departure; transfer to the airport will coincide with the timing of your departing flight.
