Lemosho Route is the most popular and beautiful trail for trekking on Kilimanjaro, and also one of the best route for acclimatization and is very successful. Compared to other trails like Machame, Marangu and Rongai, it begins higher up the mountain at 2250 meters above sea level and climbs slowly over 70 kilometers.

Day One: Arusha – Trail Starting Point

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport near Arusha, you will be met by an Odyssey Safaris representative who will assist you in loading your bags as we make our way to the starting point of the Lemosho trail. Here you meet the rest of your crew and set off at a leisurely pace into afromontane forest. Lunch is taken on the trail and camp is reached midafternoon. Overnight Forest Camp (full board).

Day Two: Shira Plateau

From the forested slopes of Lemosho, you ascend through Podocarpus and Juniper forest and break out of the forest on to the heath zone and the Shira Plateau. Lunch is taken on the trail and you arrive in camp midafternoon. Overnight Shira 1 Camp (full board).

Day Three: Continuing The Ascent

After a relatively long hike and significant altitude gain, today is a short day and you arrive in Shira 2 camp in time for lunch. Today is a good day for acclimatization with the option of an afternoon walk with your guides. Overnight Shira 2 Camp (full board).

Day Four: Great Barranco Valley

Today we walk on a gentle ascent and panoramic views. We traverse the southwest side of Kilimanjaro, passing underneath the Lava Tower and the final section of the Western Breach and after hot lunch the bottom of the Lava Tower (4,600 m.) we descend to the bottom of the Great Barranco Valley (3,900 m). Overnight at Karanga Camp.

Day Five: Barafu Ridge

A steep climb up the eastern wall leads us just below the Heim Glacier, where we have some spectacular views of Kilimanjaro. We then take a steep exit up the Great Barranco Wall, which divides us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo and the trail continues down into the alpine desert of the Karanga Valley.

We continue with steep climb up to Karanga Camp for lunch, afterwards we will take the Traverse Route that takes us up the Barafu Ridge. We walk up quite slowly to the final camp before your last ascent day to the summit.
The remainder of the day is spent relaxing in preparation for the final ascent before a very early night.

Day Six: Mount Kilimanjaro Summit

There is a very early ascent up the breach at 1am. It takes around 4 hours to reach the crater rim and then time for a quick refuel and then the final push to the summit arriving around dawn. The hike then heads down via Stella Point to Barafu camp. Here there is a short rest before continuing to Millennium camp for the evening. Overnight Millennium Camp (full board).

Day Seven: Kilimanjaro – Arusha – International Flight Home

After breakfast you descend once again through montane forest and around midday after saying farewell to your crew, you are picked up and transfer back to your hotel to freshen up and thereafter to your other destination or airport for flight home.
