A smooth and seamless journey filled with exciting animal encounters and atmospheric camps that you can just sit back and enjoy the wonders of Tanzania.

Day One: Arrive Arusha

Your journey begins as you are collected from the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to Arusha Coffee Lodge. This growing city lies near the foot of Mount Meru, serving as the travel hub for safaris to Tanzania’s famous Northern Safari Circuit.

Destination: Arusha, Tanzania

Welcome to Arusha, the gateway to the popular safari circuit in northern Tanzania. Sitting snugly at the foothills of Mount Meru, the small town is surrounded by some of the most famous national parks in Africa. Virtually everyone visiting Tanzania’s northern parks will stop over here, but few actually take the time to get to know it. Dig a little deeper, and you’ll be surprised at what you can do in and around Arusha.

Overnight: Arusha Coffee Lodge

Lying on the gently rolling foothills that cascade down from the ever-present Mount Meru is the bustling and vibrant town of Arusha. It is here on the outskirts of this town, hidden amongst one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations, that you will find Arusha Coffee Lodge, a perfect haven for relaxation either before or after any East African safari.

Day Two: Arusha – Lake Manyara National Park

On the second day, we travel from Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park, taking an afternoon game drive and stopping for a picnic lunch along the way. This incredibly scenic national park is noted for its tree-climbing lions, large troops of baboons and flamingo flocks. Keep an eye out for buffaloes, elephants, zebras, wildebeest and giraffe as well as antelopes such as bushbuck. Lake Manyara also hosts an abundance of birds, including numerous waterbirds.

Destination: Lake Manyara, Tanzania

Lake Manyara National Park is a small park at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment. Its groundwater forest offers a nice change of scenery from the more savannah-dominated parks. Although the park is known for tree-climbing lions, big cats aren’t that easily seen. Elephant are prolific and are the main attraction.

Overnight: Lake Manyara Serena Lodge

With its extraordinary setting on the edge of the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment, the Lake Manyara Serena Lodge offers panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara. Private balconies on each guest room take full advantage of breathtaking vistas of the African wilderness, as do the lounge, restaurant, and infinity swimming pool, which literally seems suspended above the spectacular landscape.

Day Three: Lake Manyara National Park – Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, we depart for the Serengeti National Park with a picnic lunch along the way. Renowned for the annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle. Golden-maned lion prides feast on the abundance of plain grazers. En route to Serengeti, you will drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Ndutu Plains. The afternoon game drive will follow.

Destination: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

The Serengeti is one of the most famous parks in Africa and is synonymous with wildlife and classic African scenery. It is Tanzania’s oldest park and a Unesco World Heritage Site. It is home to the spectacular wildebeest migration and offers top-class wildlife viewing throughout the year.

Overnight: Serengeti Serena Lodge

Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge is an award-winning gem of a lodge in one of the most beautiful settings in Tanzania. Seamlessly blended high into an acacia-lined ridge, our African-style lodge and infinity pool offer panoramic views across the Serengeti’s vast, endless grasslands, where lions and cheetahs stalk their prey and massive migrating wildebeest herds darken the landscape in a relentless search for fresh grazing grounds.

Day Four: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater

Today we depart for the 8th wonder of the world, the Ngorongoro Crater. Nearly 20 kilometers in diameter, the Ngorongoro Crater measures in as the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world. Views from atop the 600 meter high walls are spectacular and open up a new world of wonder to those visiting this gorgeous country. A great introduction to Tanzania, this nature wonderland offers you sightings of the big five as well as a whole host of excellent plains game and even the elusive leopard can be seen perched high in the trees. Enjoy a half-day crater tour with picnic lunch before returning back to camp for dinner and then spend the rest of the evening at your leisure. Rest up as the adventures continue tomorrow!

Destination: Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

A visit to the Ngorongoro Crater is an experience of a lifetime. There are few places that have wildlife densities and variety on this level. It is not unusual to see the Big Five in one day – and all this in the most amazing setting with a backdrop of the 600m/1,968ft-high crater wall.

Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Lodge

Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge blends the almost indescribable beauty and magnitude of the Ngorongoro Crater with unparalleled standards for comfort and service. Clinging to the Crater rim beneath river stone and a cloak of native vines, this accommodation is so seamlessly entwined with the landscape, guests can’t help but feel as one with the natural surroundings.

Day Five: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha – Zanzibar Island

Depart for Arusha with an optional stop over at the Cultural Heritage center souvenir shop and art gallery. On a clear day you will see Mt. Meru standing tall over the city of Arusha. Arrive at the Arusha Coffee Lodge where you will enjoy a meal in the lush green gardens. Upon finishing lunch, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight into the paradise of Zanzibar Island. Upon arrival you will be met by an Odyssey Safaris representative and make your way to Emerson on Hurumzi for your overnight.
