A smooth and seamless journey filled with exciting animal encounters and atmospheric camps that you can just sit back and enjoy the wonders of Tanzania.
Day One: Arrival Into Arusha
Your journey begins as you are collected from the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to Arusha Coffee Lodge. This growing city lies near the foot of Mount Meru, serving as the travel hub for safaris to Tanzania’s famous Northern Safari Circuit.
Day Two: Arusha – Lake Manyara National Park
On the second day, we travel from Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park, taking an afternoon game drive and stopping for a picnic lunch along the way. This incredibly scenic national park is noted for its tree-climbing lions, large troops of baboons and flamingo flocks.
Keep an eye out for buffaloes, elephants, zebras, wildebeest and giraffe as well as antelopes such as bushbuck. Lake Manyara also hosts an abundance of birds, including numerous waterbirds.
Day Three: Lake Manyara National Park – Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, we depart for the Serengeti National Park with a picnic lunch along the way. Renowned for the annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing.
Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle. Golden-maned lion prides feast on the abundance of plain grazers.
Solitary leopards haunt the acacia trees lining the Seronera River, while a high density of cheetahs prowl the southeastern plains. There is more to Serengeti than large mammals. There are over 500 species of birds, and your guide will
also introduce you to the small five.
Enroute to Serengeti, you will drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Ndutu Plains. Afternoon game drive will follow.
Day Four: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater
Today we depart for the 8th wonder of the world, the Ngorongoro Crater. Nearly 20 kilometers in diameter, the Ngorongoro Crater measures in as the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world. Views from atop the 600 meter high walls are spectacular and open up a new world of wonder to those visiting this gorgeous country.
A great introduction to Tanzania, this nature wonderland offers you sightings of the big five as well as a whole host of excellent plains game and even the elusive leopard can be seen perched high in the trees.
Flamingos can be seen wading through the central soda lake and the freshwater lakes provide some excellent birdwatching opportunities. Hyena are sometimes seen following the lions from a distance in hopes of a meal and jackal can often be skulking around the bushier areas of the crater.
Enjoy a half-day crater tour with picnic lunch before returning back to camp for dinner and then spend the rest of the evening at your leisure. Rest up as the adventures continue tomorrow!
Day Five: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
Depart for Arusha with an optional stop over at the Cultural Heritage center souvenir shop and art gallery. On a clear day you will see Mt. Meru standing tall over the city of Arusha. Arrive at the Arusha Coffee Lodge where you will enjoy a meal in the lush green gardens.
Upon finishing lunch, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight into the paradise of Zanzibar Island. Upon arrival you will be met by an Odyssey Safaris representative and make your way to Emerson on Hurumzi for your overnight.
Day Six & Seven: Exploring Zanzibar Island
The next two days are spent relaxing on the white sand beaches, swimming in the warm Indian Ocean and enjoying your luxury Zanzibar hotel at leisure. The islands of the Zanzibar Archipelago are famous for their idyllic tropical beaches and are known as the Spice Islands, for the exotic spices grown here.
Visit the spice plantations to smell, see and taste the brightly colored and aromatic spices, such as turmeric, ginger, black pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon. You can take a boat ride to one of the smaller islands to relax and explore, or go scuba diving. Snorkeling and scuba diving are popular activities due to the rich marine life found in these clear waters.
The Stone Town of Zanzibar is a wonderful fusion of various cultures and the Swahili coastal island life. This region is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While exploring the narrow winding streets of Stone Town, visitors can notice the preserved buildings that have been influenced by Indian, Arab, Persian and European influences over several centuries. Stone Town is also famed for its unique Zanzibari doors with detailed craftsmanship, each telling a unique story.
Day Eight: Zanzibar – Arusha – International Flight Home
After breakfast on day, you can relax at the resort until it is time for you to transfer to the airport. You can store your luggage at the resort once you have checked out of your room at 10:30 and continue enjoying the resort facilities.
When it is time for your airport transfer our driver collects you at reception and drives you to the Zanzibar International Airport, where this once in a lifetime adventure comes to a close.
