Day One – Arusha

Meet and greet upon arrival at JRO Airport and transfer to the Lodge.

Rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight: Rivertrees Country Inn

The Rivertrees lies nestled in the foothills of Mount Meru, in view of Mount Kilimanjaro. This peaceful country estate combines warmth, authenticity and elegance. Enjoy the excellent farm cuisine and very good service.

There are 18 styled garden rooms, 2 hidden cottages and the River House — a secluded thatched cottage on the Usa River.

The country meals are served in the restaurant, the gardens, near the river or in the beautifully restored farmhouse with its warm ochre colors and cherished family antiques.

Guests will be able to relax by the pool, in the spa or enjoy a drink at the bar or in the garden.

Meal Plan:  Breakfast and Dinner

Day Two – Arusha

After breakfast, head to Tarangire national park.

This 2600 sq. km park, renowned for its endless savannah plains filled with Baobab & Acacia trees, boasts some of Tanzania’s best game: huge herds of elephants which can be seen mostly during the dry season, cats, herbivores but also rare species such as the Gerenuk, small Koudou, and Oryx…

Spend the whole day exploring this vast wildlife sanctuary. Picnic lunch or at a lodge.

Overnight: Maweninga Camp

Perched on the top of a massive granitic rock, the camp has a privileged location within Tarangire national park.

All 16 tents are equipped with large & comfortable beds, a lovely terrace overlooking the park & the lakes on the horizon, and also include bathroom with hot shower (provided via solar panels) and flush toilet.

The camp’s architecture is unique and perfectly integrated into the wilderness.

Breathtaking views from the tents and from the dining and bar area.

Meal Plan:  Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Day Three – Lake Manyara National Park

Morning departure to Manyara National Park.

Ernest Hemingway wrote it was “the loveliest he had seen in Africa”…

Although the smallest of all north Tanzanian National Parks, Manyara National Park offers an important variety of animals including Lions, Elephants, Giraffes, Buffalos… in a wonderful setting surrounded by the Rift Valley and the Manyara Lake with its thousands of birds.

Picnic lunch around midday underneath majestic acacia trees

Overnight: Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

Based on the edges of the crater, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge offers a stunning view of this jewel heritage of UNESCO.

Each of the 91 rooms is very spacious, with two queen size beds, and a large window overlooking breathtaking views of the  crater.

As in the rooms, the restaurant offers a wonderful panoramic view of the crater.

Meal Plan:  Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Day Four – Ngorongoro Crater

Depart from your lodge after breakfast and head to the park gate.

Part of the Unesco World Heritage, this place is undoubtedly the most famous African sanctuary.

The crater is a unique place in the world, 20 km wide and home of hundreds of different species all protected by a 600m wall.

All the big African mammals can be found in the crater: Big cats, Elephants, Hippos and last but not least, Rhinos.

Spend a whole day exploring the caldera with picnic lunch break around the lake.

Overnight: Olduvai Camp

Close to the famous Olduvai Gorge (cradle of mankind), lies the world renowned Olduvai Camp.

Perfectly integrated into nature (one can only catch sight of it as camp is about to be reached…), Olduvai is a unique & Must-Stay-At property when on safari in Tanzania.

17 state of the “bush-art” en suite tents, plus a superb bar & dining area.

Feel the “Safaris of the past” atmosphere, enjoy interacting & walking with the Masai, learn more about early men who once stood up in the Gorge. This is truly an experience that can’t be missed!

Overnight: Olduvai Camp

Meal Plan:  Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner

Day Five and Six – Serengeti National Park

In the morning, head to Serengeti National Park and spend the next two days exploring what is probably the greatest park on earth…

This park, undoubtedly the most famous in the world, covers over 14 000 sq. km and offers amongst many other things the biggest concentration of big cats in the world (Cheetahs, Lions, Leopards, Wild cats…).

Many different landscapes can be found in the Serengeti: Savannah with the big plains to the south, the hills & woods to the west, the kopjes area to the east, and bush land to the north. Important rivers (Seronera, Banagi, and Grumeti) also run through the park and many different species of mammals can be spotted around these (Elephants, Buffalos, Giraffes, antelopes…). Hippos and crocodiles can also be found.

Overnight: Ronjo Camp

Ronjo Camp is located in the heart of Serengeti NP and offers one of the park’s best campsites.

Our camp being semi-permanent and wildlife being all over, our guests definitely get a nice taste of adventure at Ronjo!

Even though not a permanent venue, all 16 tents are spacious, comfortable with en suite facilities.

Meals are served under a large mess tent & atmosphere, especially in the evening with our camp fire, is one of a kind…

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Day Seven – Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater

A full day of game viewing split between Serengeti and Ngorongoro plains with a nice drive among changing landscapes, punctuated with wildlife encounters.  Find animals peacefully drinking, relaxing on the top of Kopjes or some red Masaai blanket on the horizon!

This day is the opportunity to learn more about the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Find out more about the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA): as opposed to a traditional National Park, men are allowed to live there and Maasai villages can be found in this area. Other interests in this area are the Olduvai site and its museum, the Shifting Sands, Olduvai & Olkarien gorges, Nassera Rock.

Plans for the day include a visit to Olduvai Museum where the Museum director will be honoured to tell you a bit more about the site of Olduvai and the works of various anthropologists as well as a visit to a nearby Maasai village to learn more about this great people’s way of life.

Great walks can also be organized in the NCA.

In brief, a nice day in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro plains with a picnic lunch on the way to Karatu.

Overnight: Bashay Rift Lodge

Located in the heart of coffee plantations, Bashay Rift Lodge is a small and exclusive property, ideally located near Karatu and the Ngorongoro Crater park gate.

All 21 rooms offer a cozy and charming atmosphere with superb views over the Karatu highlands & the Great Rift Escarpment.

“The Main” as we call it features a superb bar & lounge area as well as a lovely dining room. Private functions can also be organized on the terrace and all of our guests are more than welcome to use our on-site swimming pool.
