DETAILED ITINERARY

Day One – Arusha – Selous Game Reserve

We start our southern route with a drive from Dar es Salaam to Selous Game Reserve. Upon arrival, sit back and relax as you enjoy a tasty lunch prepared by the camp chefs. Following your meal, we will embark on an afternoon boat safari.

Boating safaris in flat bottomed boats are perhaps the most relaxing way to game view. Sharing the river with pods of hippo and floats of crocodiles giving you the opportunity to view birds nesting in the banks, monitor lizards and many water birds are just some of the highlights.

Overnight: Rufiji River Camp

Day Two – Selous Game Reserve

Enjoy a full day game drive. These are taken in open vehicles with a sun shade roof, so there are no impediments to anyone’s view. Guides at Rufiji are locally trained and are experts in the Selous area.

Overnight: Rufiji River Camp

Day Three – Selous Game Reserve

Start your morning with an awaking walking safari. A game walk at Rufiji will really open your eyes to the finer details often missed on game drives – the spore, footprints, the ’tillte five’ representing the insect Kingdom are fascinating when evaluated and explained by your Walking guide.

In the afternoon, head out on an additional boating safari.

Day Four – Selous Game Reserve – Mikumi National Park

Today we adventure into Mikumi National Park. Mikumi National Park is located in the north of the Selous Game Reserve in Morogoro region. It is bordered by Uluguru Mountains in the North and Rubeho Mountains to the south-east. The main feature in the park is Mkata River Flood Plain. The park was extended to border with Selous in 1975 . It was gazetted in 1964 during the construction of Morogoro- Iringa highway. The park shares the eco-system with the Selous Game Reserve, and Kilombero Game Controlled Area.

With 3,230 square kilometers coverage Mikumi National Park is a well-known park in Tanzania. The park comes highly recommended for its population of elephants, giraffes buffaloes, zebras, elands, greater Kudu, wildebeest, roan and sable antelope. Predators include tree-climbing lions (which are in large number), leopards, wild hunting dogs and black-backed jackal.

In the afternoon, enjoy a wonderful picnic lunch while taking in your surroundings.

Overnight: Vuma Hills Tented Camp

Day Five – Mikumi National Park – Ruaha National Park

Start your day off with an adventurous game drive to see the all that Mikumi National Park has to offer. The key to an outstanding game drive is experience, knowledge, and a suitable vehicle. All game drives around the park are taken in open 4×4 wheel drive vehicle. These vehicles have been designed to ensure maximum visibility for all passengers. The game drives are led by a trained and experienced English speaking guide who will ensure that you get the most out of your experience.

In the afternoon, embark on a drive from Mikumi to Ruaha with a picnic lunch.

Overnight: Ruaha River Lodge

Day Six and Seven – Ruaha National Park

Today we set out on a full day game drive. Most of the game drives spend at least some of their time following the river, before breaking off and exploring the bushland and kopjes beyond. Ruaha has a large Lion population as well as Hunting Dog, Leopard, Cheetah, and Hyena. Elephants are easily seen, as well as Greater and Lesser Kudu, Roan, Sable and Eland Antelope to mention just a few.

Overnight: Ruaha River Lodge

Day Eight – Ruaha National Park – Mikumi National Park

Today we make our way back to Mikumi for an afternoon game drive with a picnic lunch to follow after.

Overnight: Vuma Hills Tented Camp

Day Nine – Mikumi National Park – Dar es Salaam

Start your day off with an adventurous game drive to see the all that Mikumi National Park has to offer. The key to an outstanding game drive is experience, knowledge, and a suitable vehicle. All game drives around the park are taken in open 4×4 wheel drive vehicle. These vehicles have been designed to ensure maximum visibility for all passengers. The game drives are led by a trained and experienced English speaking guide who will ensure that you get the most out of your experience.
