Day One: Arrive Nairobi

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by an Odyssey Safaris representative and transferred by private vehicle to the Nairobi Serena Hotel. The remainder of your day is at leisure relaxing in a celebration of sophistication and a rich fusion of design influences from Ethiopia, the Maghreb, West Africa and East Africa. The warmth of a friendly smile, a superlative eye for detail and gracious service envelop you from the moment you arrive. Day Two: Exploring Nairobi

Today’s tour of Nairobi takes in all the highlights, visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and its pioneering orphan’s project. Meet the little ones as they return from foraging in the bush, ready for their milk feed. Continue to the Giraffe Center, home of the endangered Rothschild Giraffe, where you will have the opportunity to interact with these gentle giants. Round off the day with a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum, once owned by Danish Author Karen Blixen. The Oscar winning film ‘Out of Africa’, is based on Karen’s life.

Day Three: Nairobi – Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Begin your journey to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a predator rich reserve that also is one of East Africa’s largest private rhino sanctuaries. Arrive in time for lunch and enjoy sweeping views of the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya. Embark on an afternoon game drive into the reserve and be ready to photograph the wealth of wildlife. Later this evening discover Ol Pejeta Conservancy ‘after dark’ on a once in a lifetime night game drive. With the help of a filtered spot light, keep your eyes peeled for nocturnal animals, like the aardvark, white-tailed mongoose and the elusive leopard.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 400 square kilometre safe haven for wildlife, including rhino, in the Laikipia region of Kenya. Ol Pejeta is home to the largest population of black rhino in East Africa, and conversely, the last two northern white rhinos in the world.

A sheltered oasis, clustered around a waterhole and set in the pristine calm of its own private reserve, Sweetwaters Tented Camp is in a class of its own. Day Four: Exploring Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Start the morning by tracking and gathering vital research information on the lions of Ol Pejeta. It is a wonderful way to learn about lions. All the information gathered is passed on to the Ol Pejeta Ecological Monitoring Department. Ol Pejeta is a refuge to several endangered species, including Kenya’s only chimpanzee sanctuary, established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market. Top off the day with a tree planting exercise. Can you think of a better way to leave your footprints in Africa?

Day Five: Ol Pejeta Conservancy – Mount Kenya

Enjoy an early morning game drive, followed by a delicious breakfast. Today we will travel north into the foothills of Mount Kenya, the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa. Stop at the Nanyuki Weavers and Spinners, a women’s self-help project established in 1977. Continue to the world-famous Mount Kenya Safari Club, arriving in time for lunch. The balance of the day is at leisure to enjoy your luxurious surroundings.

Mount Kenya is the less climbed cousin of Mount Kilimanjaro nearby in Tanzania, however many people prefer the wilderness, abundant wildlife and stunning mountain lakes that you find on Mount Kenya. The panoramic views of the jagged volcanic peaks, wide valleys and surrounding savannah makes a trek on this mountain a thoroughly enjoyable African experience.

The Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club offers luxury accommodation in Nanyuki, Kenya. Day Six: Mount Kenya – Samburu National Reserve

After breakfast, continue to the Samburu National Reserve, arriving in time for lunch. Later this afternoon set out on a game drive in search of the rare wildlife only found north of the equator. The enchanting Samburu National Reserve provides excellent year-round game viewing including a chance to encounter the ‘Samburu five’ – reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk, Somali ostrich & Grevy’s zebra. Stop for sundowners to observe the sun setting over the African plains.

Palm groves and riverine forests, in the midst of arid and semi arid ecosystems, create the magnificent landscape of the Samburu National Reserve. The Masai Mara is one of Africa’s most popular wildlife reserves and animal viewing is spectacular year-round. Immerse yourself in the lives of locals when you visit the students and teachers of a local school and Masai Village.
