Duration: 8 Days

Highlights: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Masai Mara National Reserve

This 8-day adventure brings you to the very heart and soul of Kenya while exploring two iconic national parks. Your adventure begins in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, stretching over 45,000 acres and full of vibrant wildlife. From there, your journey takes you to the Masai Marai where you’ll spend your days on extensive game runs in search of elusive predators.

Day One: Arrive Nairobi

Meet and greet at Nairobi airport with your private transfer to your hotel in Nairobi. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure to get acclimated for your safari.

Destination: Nairobi, Kenya

East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city, Nairobi is Kenya’s beating heart, an exciting, maddening concrete jungle that jarringly counterpoints the untrammelled natural beauty to be found elsewhere in the country. Nairobi’s polarising character ensures that the city is reviled and loved in equal measure, and even those who love it might well admit that it’s the kind of place many rave about only once they’re away from it.

Overnight: Hemingways Nairobi

Set between Nairobi National Park and the foot of the Ngong Hills, Hemingways Nairobi is an exclusive boutique hotel far from the bustle of central Nairobi. An all-suite property providing full butler service, gourmet restaurant, a brasserie and a bar, it is perfectly placed for trips to Nairobi National Park and the capital. Each of the 45 suites is a generous size, all with walk-in dressing rooms and a terrace with magnificent views of the Ngong Hills.

Day Two: Exploring Nairobi

Explore Nairobi today we explore the vibrant city of Nairobi where we will visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Giraffe Center. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) Elephant Nursery in Nairobi National Park provides a safe haven to orphaned baby elephants rescued by the DSWT. The Nursery provides the first stage in the hand-rearing and development of milk dependent baby elephants. Once they graduate from the Nursery, aged 2-3 years, the elephants move to one of the DSWT’s Reintegration Centers in Tsavo East National Park, from where they will ultimately return to the wild. The Giraffe Center which protects the highly endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, combines serious conservation with enjoyable activities. You can observe, hand-feed or even kiss one of the giraffes from a raised wooden structure, which is quite an experience.

The Lewa Safari tented camp consists of a central cedar wood cottage, housing the dining room, lounge and bar, while guest accommodation is in tents on raised platforms and under thatched roofs. Each tent has electric light, en-suite bathrooms and large double beds. The camp overlooks a floodlit waterhole. Day Four: Exploring Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

Today you will be exploring the Lewa region, which is a stronghold for the highly endangered black rhino in Kenya. The conservancy intimately connected with the local tribes uses much of the profit raised in community and conservation projects. Traverse the conservancy in safari game vehicles and spot the myriad of species that live in the area. Watch for baby rhinos hiding beneath their mother’s belly. Look for lions being chased by angry buffalo and hiding up a tree to try to escape after a failed attempted hunt.

This is also a great opportunity to see some of the 350 species of birds, which occur in the region. Lewa is a fascinating, game rich area with never a dull moment. You can tour Lewa’s community weaving and furniture workshops, tour the organic garden producing the lodge’s fruits and vegetables, play tennis, explore the nearby ancient archaeological site, swim in the pool or simply relax on the terrace with a pair of binoculars spotting the “Big Five” from your lounge chair. The accommodations here are also divine-British cozy meets safari chic. Simply stated, Lewa Downs is an utterly perfect safari experience.
